    I've been reminded of Thoreau's Walden a lot recently as we've been going through our possessions trying to decide which we want to get rid of, which we want to store, and which we want to take with us on the trip. What's surprised me the most about the process is how much easier it is to get rid of things when you imagine literally dragging it around the country with you in a small RV.

  • From Hybrid to Huge Truck

    January 13, 2014--Today was a big day for us.  We picked up our pickup truck, the first major purchase toward this dream that we have been talking about for almost 2 years now.  I'm not sure why, but somehow the thought of me driving a pickup truck continues to be one of the funniest ideas to me.  Maybe it is because I grew up in a town that doesn't even allow pickups to be parked anywhere but in garages.  Maybe it is because for the last 15 years the largest car we have owned is a Honda Accord.

  • In 6 months...

    It is hard to believe that in 6 short months we will be beginning this 48 states project adventure that we have been talking about for nearly 2 years.  It will include many firsts for us, including this--my very first blog post :)

    It has been an interesting process of anticipating, grieving and preparing for this endeavor.  We were working on making our (very long) list of tasks and many emotions came up for me--excitement, overwhelmedness, sadness, fear, hope, joy, and curiosity.  The anticipati
