  • My Two Primary Home/Road Schooling Feelings

    The idea of homeschooling our kids for a year was one of the parts of this adventure that scared me most. And, after 9 months, I am relieved to say we got through almost all of the material I had hoped to cover.  My biggest emotions right now are thankfulness and relief.

    Relieved that:

    • my kids' academic success is not dependent on this one year
    • the kids have such a great, familiar elementary school and friends to return to
    • we can enjoy the last 7 weeks of traveling without the pressure of finishing

  • Looking at things from different points of view is not a new concept. However, traveling this year has added new dimensions of perspective. As I've matured from looking at things from an "either-or" to a "both-and" perspective, it has been fun to appreciate the great variety of ways to approach life.

  • Missing Home

    Lately, I have been feeling more homesick than ever. Yes, I am still glad we're doing this 48 States Project. Yes, I am thankful for all the beautiful & interesting things we're getting to see. Yes, it is an incredible opportunity for the kids, and for us as a family.

    Last night I read a quote that said, "Wherever you go, go with all your heart." And I remembered about a conversation I had with a friend who suggested that part of the hard part of returning after being in Michigan for the holidays
